Florida beach water temperatures for January
After a number of cold fronts, the water temperatures have dropped off in Florida. There has been a slight rebound over the past few days though. As of now beach water temperatures are in the 50’s (brrrr!) on the northwest coast from Pensacola to St. George Island….. and on the northeast coast ( 1st coast and space coast for locals ) from Fernandina beach south to Cape Canaveral.
Water temps are in the 60’s on the sun coast of Florida from Clearwater beach south to Sanibel island as well as on the east coast from Cape Canaveral south to about Stuart.
The warmest water is found from Key West to Stuart where it is in the 70’s. Typically in the winter the warmest water can be found near West Palm beach to Miami where the Gulf Stream nips the coast. It is not unusual to find water temperatures in mid to upper 70’s offshore in the Gulf Stream.
The forecast over the next couple of weeks calls for some strong cold fronts to sweep by. If so, the water temperatures could take a sharp drop, except for the extreme southeastern tip of florida.
